Durham Lupus Support Group:  We are people living with lupus, families and friends.  The Durham Lupus Support Group also welcomes people with other chronic illnesses. 

Our group can provide hope, understanding, acceptance and knowledge.

The Durham Lupus Support Group hosts a variety of fundraisers and public awareness initiatives.  Our goal is that everyone in Durham Region living with lupus will discover they are not alone in this fight and that there is support for them.

The Durham Lupus Support Group is a Branch of Lupus Ontario. Please support our Support Group by becoming a member of Lupus Ontario.  Lupus Ontario is a registered charity funded by membership, memorial bequests and donations.  Lupus Ontario supports five Lupus Clinics in Ontario The Geoff Carr Fellowship, CaNIOS Research Project and the Sick Kids Fellowship. 

The Durham Walk for Lupus raises pledges to support Lupus Ontario in helping with their goal to one day find a cure for this baffling disease.

I AM A GIRL               

I am a girl, strong and alone.                     

I am tough and accomplish things on my own.

I have a disease that can never stay pleased.

It is called SLE, but at first it wasn't seen.

It limits my life, but I put up with its strife.

I focus on what I can do, and what I can prove.

I live my whole life, take it by day. And I fill it to play.

I can do everything my friends can achieve.

For me it takes some effort but I still get it done.

I can laugh and can play, and live my own way.

I can run and can shout without any doubt.

I can do well in school, and follow the rules.

I do what I'm told, and I'm going to grow old.

I won't let my limits control my whole life.

 I cry at the pain, but it still leaves me the same.

There’s not much I can do, except learn all the rules -

of my disease that’s controlling.

It may take some time, and ask God to tell me my crime -

That has made me deserve what I go through each day.

But it’s not all so bad, I've used my disease, to open the doors, and to share and explore, with kids just like me.

Who go through the pain, like mine, so much the same.

I can run and can dance.  I’ve made some life plans, and I won' let the fear give reason to tear.

I can live my life my way - I will live it with my say.
